Sub : Amendment in para 2.05 (c) of Foreign Trade Policy (2015-20)

Re : Reduction of documents while applying for Import-Export Code (IEC)

Dear Member,

To facilitate ease of doing business and lessen paperwork, the Commerce Ministry has decided to reduce the number of mandatory documents for taking Import-Export Code (IEC) to two. Import-Export Code (IEC) is required for shipments.

The DGFT has issued a Notification No. 34 /2015-2020 dated 29th January, 2016 in this regard. Earlier, several documents including complete details of the entity seeking the IEC; details of the proprietor/ partners/ directors/managing trustee of the entity, and details of the signatory applicant were required to get this code number.

From the date of this notification only two documents are required to be uploaded /submitted along with the digital photograph while applying for IEC with immediate effect

which are as follows:

  1. Copy of the PAN card of the business entity in whose name Import/Export would be done (Applicant individual in case of Proprietorship firms);
  2. Cancelled cheque bearing entity’s pre-printed name or Bank certificate in prescribed format ANF-2A(I)

Further, applications for IEC/ modification in IEC can be made only in online mode by applicants through digital signatures (Class-II or Class-III) with effect from 1.4.2016.

Members may make a note of the above.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,
