Sub: Participation in the International branded-wear exhibition (called CPM) in Sep'16

Dear Member

Kindly refer to Council’s Circular No. ES/6/2016-17 dated April 5, 2016 regarding mounting a Joint Textile Delegation to Russia. In this regard we have received a communication from the Ministry of Textile along with a copy of the letter received from the Embassy of India, Moscow inviting participation of Indian Exporters to the above Exhibition.

As you are aware, due to the strained bilateral relations between Russia and Turkey, there is a clear impact on the trade between the two countries. The Embassy of India, Moscow has informed that the ongoing crisis in Russian clothing sector has created opportunities for Indian exporters to explore the possibility to meet the market requirements through our exports, awaiting of the dip in Russia-Turkey trade. One of the sectors relevant is textiles & garments.

You may be aware that, Turkey was a major exporter of garments to Russian owing to its quality of garments/fabric, ease of transport to Russia, and faster clearance of consignments. The Russian government is contemplating and indirect policy of substituting imports from Turkey with other alternatives including some Asian exporters of garments such as India, Bangladesh and Indonesia. They have informally approached the Embassy of India in Moscow to check whether Indian exporters would be willing to increase their exports to Russia to substitute Turkish exports.

This is an excellent opportunity for Indian exporters to directly engage with Russian importers. Thus, it is crucial that we move swiftly and avail of the emerging opportunity, which may be taken over by others and the window may not be open for long.

The Embassy recommends that the Ministry of Commerce & Industry along with the Ministry of Textiles to mount a delegation of prominent Indian exporters, especially with branded readymade garment exporters including accessories and hand-made items manufactures exporters to Russia. On the textiles issues, the Embassy would like to encourage large Fabric Manufacturers and prominent Indian brands in readymade garments sector - especially children's wear to visit Russia as part of the delegation and also to participate in major trade fairs in Russia.

With regard to the above, the Embassy of India, Moscow has further requested Indian exporters for participation in the forthcoming trade fairs focusing on international branded-wear 'on (called CPM) scheduled to be held in September 2016 in Moscow.

The event will focus on summer-wear and autumn-wear. The Embassy has strongly recommended that we should encourage our exporters to participate in his trade fair. We would like to inform you that coinciding with this event, there will be a fashion show by international players from Paris & Milan. We may also look at a similar branding event to popularize emerging Indian brands in that fashion event. It could be conceptualized in such a way that prominent Indian brands and designers get acquainted with Russian market. We have to emphasize that Russia is among the most markets in terms of aesthetics, quality of fabric, style and fashion.

The Embassy has also informed the Ministry of Commerce and Industry that it would be a privilege to jointly work on this project with Textile EPCs and Indian Fashion Institutes to achieve maximum visibility for Indian brands.

As you are aware, exports of Man-Made Fibre Textiles has been witnessing a negative growth in the four segments namely – Yarn, Fabrics, Made-ups and Fibre. This is a good opportunity for our Members to enhance their exports to Russia by establishing business contacts in the Russian market with a platform to strengthen the business relations and to explore new opportunities, meet new buyers/importers and gain a foothold in this growing market.

Thanking You,

Yours faithfully,
