Business Meetings between Indian Fabric Exporters and Bangladeshi Fabric Buyers on the sidelines of the visit of Bangladeshi PM to Delhi during December 2016

MOST URGENT & IMMEDIATE

Date : 18th November, 2016

TO MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL,

Re : Business Meetings between Indian Fabric Exporters and Bangladeshi Fabric Buyers on the sidelines of the visit of Bangladeshi PM to Delhi during December 2016

With reference to the above, we are glad to inform you that with backdrop of India-Bangladesh Commerce Secretary level discussion held from 15 to 16 November, 2016 in Delhi, Secretary (Commerce), Ministry of Commerce desired to organize structured B2B Meetings between Indian manufacturers / exporters of Fabrics and Bangladeshi Buyers of the same on the sidelines of proposed visit of the Prime Ministry of Bangladesh to Delhi in December 2016.

While the officials of the Ministry of Commerce / Ministry of Textiles are working to finalize specific date/s, timings, and venue for the proposed Business Meetings between Indian Exporters of fabrics and their target Bangladeshi Buyers in Delhi during December 2016, you are requested to fill in the enclosed “Application Form” and send the same to us at the earliest but not later than 19th November, 2016 to enable us to immediately ensure the onward transmission of your company / products profiles to the concerned Officials in the Ministry.  Meanwhile, as soon as the dates of the proposed business meetings are firmed up, we shall immediately send the same to you.

Incidentally, as you are aware, Bangladesh has emerged as the second largest Apparel exporting country after China in the world with an annual export turnover of around US$ 30 Billion.    Accordingly, Bangladesh does require huge quantity of textiles particularly fabrics to cater to the growing requirements of its vibrant Garment Apparel Industry.  However, since the country doesn’t have a good back-up for producing the necessary raw-materials (fabrics) needed for making garments on its own, it is largely dependent on the outside sourcing of the required fabric materials from different sourcing centers in the world including India.   Analysts say, the Apparel export earnings by Bangladesh can be more than doubled by the year 2020.   Bangladesh is also the fourth largest market for buying Indian MMF Textiles during 2014-15.  It has imported around US$ 4 Billion of Man-made fibre from the world during 2014, of which, India’s share was only around 10%.  Bangladesh sourced around US$ 2 Billion of Man-made fibre based fabrics from the world, of which India’s share was 11% during 2014.  Main items of exports from India to Bangladesh include polyester filament fabrics, nylon filament fabrics, sarees, furnishing articles, laces, muffler etc.   The leading markets from which Bangladesh sources its requirement of fabrics include China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hog Kong, India, South Korea, Indonesia.

In view of the vast growing Bangladeshi market of textiles & apparel and the huge under exploited import potential of textiles (fabrics) of Bangladesh with India, participation in the above mentioned Business Meetings is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for member-companies of the Council. It is, therefore, hoped that you will grab this opportunity by attending the proposed Business Meetings with your Bangladeshi customers in Delhi during December 2016.

We look forward to receiving your confirmation per return mail.

Regards,

Srijib Roy
Additional Director
