Sub: GST Awareness Campaign
Dear Member,
The Council has received a communication from the Chairman of CBEC vide letter D.O. No. 07/CHEC/ Misc/2017 dated 11.05.2017 informing about the GST Awareness Campaign.
As you may be aware, the Goods & Service Tax (GST) is to be rolled out from 01st July, 2017. The GST Acts, namely the Central Goods & Service Tax (CGST) Act, Integrated Goods & Service Tax (IGST) Act & Union Territory Goods & Service Tax (UTGST) Act have already been enacted and several State Assemblies have also passed SGST law.
In this connection, the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) has embarked upon the process of training and awareness, which would be of paramount importance in the smooth roll- out of GST.
In order to reach out to the widest audience possible, CBEC is organizing GST awareness workshops/ seminar in towns/ cities. The workshops are being organized in a town hall format for half day for about three hours either in the forenoon or afternoon, as convenient and in regional languages also. The purpose of such workshops is sensitize the members of trade across India to make them aware of the salient features of GST. Given the size and geography of the country, regional and linguistic variations, the success of the GST Awareness Campaign would require coordinated efforts by both the Centre as well State Indirect Tax Administration. Hence, CBEC field formations in coordination with State authorities are organizing GST workshops/ seminars for members across India with the intention of covering all existing and prospective GST assesses.
