Action Plan for reduction in use of Plastic containers for forwarding samples

Dear Member,

This is to inform you that Mumbai Customs has issued Trade Notice No. 82/2018 dated 05th June, 2018 informing about the action Plan for reduction in use of Plastic containers for forwarding samples.

As you are aware, plastic containers are of non- biodegradable nature, any material having bio-degradable property and strength to hold the required quantity of sample can replace plastic containers.

In this connection, Customs House is receiving large number of Petroleum samples (approx. 49%) viz. Base oil, Lube oil, Hydraulic oil, Steaming coal etc. besides Metals (10%), textiles, plastics, denatured alcohols and hence,  members of Trade and officers are advised to make use of following items for the above purpose.

  • Paper pouches having lining of aluminum.
  • Paper pouches having lining of bio-degradable polymer.
  • Use of metallic containers
  • Use of glass bottles..

Members may please make a note of the above.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,

S. BALARAJU
