Participation in “Morocco Fashion & Tex” being organized by SRTEPC under the MAI Scheme in Casablanca - March 28-31, 2019

8th January 2019

To: Members of the Council

Dear Sir,

Re: Participation in “Morocco Fashion & Tex” being organized by SRTEPC under the MAI Scheme in Casablanca - March 28-31, 2019

The Council will be organizing participation of its member-companies in “Morocco Fashion & Tex” at Casablanca with active assistance and guidance of the Embassy of India in Rabat. The 4-day programme, which has been approved by the Ministry of Commerce & Industries, Govt. of India for 2018-19 under the MAI Scheme, will be held from March 28-31, 2019.

Profile of the Event: The 5th edition of “Morocco Fashion & Tex” is being organized at Casablanca International Fair Ground by M/s. Pyramids International Group.  This Int’l Fair is organized to give an opportunity to National and International companies of textiles & clothing and other industry-sectors to showcase and promote their exclusive range of products to attract leading buyers/importers – representing both National and International Brands, Departmental / Retail Chain Stores, Wholesalers, Agents & Distributors, Fashion Designers / Stylists, Producers of Garments, Industry-heads and those connected for identifying future suppliers of textiles to cater to their future requirements. Morocco Fashion & Tex contributed to the consolidation of the Moroccan expertise and its competitiveness for conducting business with international players with high standard of efficiency. This Fair has accordingly made Morocco an international reference for making the country an “Afro and regional Mediterranean Hub.” The Fair attracts professionals together from all sectors of textiles, leather and shoe industry.

The 4th edition of Morocco Style, International Fashion Textile Accessories and Machinery Fair, concurrently held during March 2018, were participated by 372 exhibitors from 13 countries including Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Egypt, Taiwan and Czech Republic. Top 5 exhibiting countries, which participated in the last edition of this Fair include China, Turkey, India, Morocco and Portugal.

Market Potential: Textiles & Clothing Industries & Trade, play a very important role in the economy of Morocco. Casablanca, the “Trade & Distribution Centre” of Morocco, is the gateway of North Africa to Europe. Morocco’s advantage is its proximity to Europe and its relatively lower costs of wages and the skilled manpower -- the majority of whom are women. As import of fabrics for converting into garments is exempt from tax, Morocco imports a high volume of fabrics for export of apparels. Morocco has become an important supplier of apparels via the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) to both EU and the USA.

Morocco is a growing market for Indian MMF textiles, and during 2017-18, exports of Indian MMF textiles were to the tune of USD64.60 million. Yarn is the main product of exports with 77% followed by Made-ups with 11%, Fabrics with 9% and Fibre with 3%.

Though Morocco imported around USD 1.7 bn of MMF textiles from the global market during 2017, India’s share in its total import of MMF textiles was a meager USD 0.07 billion (4%).  Hence there is a tremendous scope for expanding the current trade of Indian MMF textiles to this market. India’s main competitors in this market are China, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Publicity & Promotion: The Fair, being an International Event will extensively be publicized by the Organisers to ensure footfalls of potential Moroccan buyers to the above Event for discussing business with representatives of concerned exhibiting companies. In this regard, the Council will also carry out an exclusive publicity & promotion programme with the help of the Indian Embassy to ensure visit of buyers to the Fair. A reference list of buyers will also be shared with participants in advance from the date of the Fair to enable them to send direct invites to their prospective customers.
