Subject: Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on textiles between India – Uzbekistan
Dear Sir,
The Council has received a communication from the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, regarding India-Uzbekistan Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on textiles to be held on 14th October, 2015. During the JWG meeting, issues for greater textile co-operation between India and Uzbekistan will be deliberated. It is also informed by the Ministry that a Cotton & Textile Fair is schedule to be held on 15th - 16th October, 2015 in Uzbekistan and companies are requested to participate in the fair.
As you may be aware, Uzbekistan is a producer and net exporter of Cotton; however it does not have adequate production of man-made fibre textiles and it does rely on imports. Hence, there is potential for MMF textile exports to Uzbekistan. Currently, India’s MMF textile export to Uzbekistan is only US$ 5.5 million.
In this connection, the Government is requesting for inputs from the Council which may be taken up suitably during the above mentioned forthcoming meeting. It is requested that members of the Council may send their views/inputs including their interest to participate in the above mentioned fair to the Council by Wednesday, 26th of August 2015, to help us compile a suitable reply to the Ministry in this regard.
