The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council

Cautioning on export to Yemen

Date : 29th November, 2017

TO MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL,

Re : Cautioning on export to Yemen

With reference to the above, this is to inform you that on the basis of Council’s recent message to the Embassy of India in Yemen on difficulties for exporting textiles from India to Yemen, we have received a message with caution for exporting to Yemen from the Embassy of India.  From the message, we understand the following :

“…….. Yemen is going through a Civil War.  Since 2014, there are two parallel governments and little resemblance of law and order in the country.  Government of India has issued advisory against Indian travelling to Yemen.  Even the Embassy has been relocated to Djibouti.  The Banks in Yemen are in bad shape, and even the central bank is hardly functioning.  The ports and airports are facing blockade and significant delays in loading and unloading of goods”

In view of the above, the Embassy of India advised Indian companies to avoid business deals with Yemeni buyers till the situation returns to normal.  However, the Embassy informed us that if still any Indian company wants to do business with Yemeni companies, it is advised to deal in 100% advance payment only.

Considering the above, all the member companies are advised to exercise appropriate caution / precautionary measures, before they decide to export to Yemen.

Thanking you,

Yours faithfully,
