To, Members of the Council,

Re: Proposal to organise exclusive Indian Textile Exhibitions/Buyer Seller Meets in El Salvador & Honduras during June/July 2015

We are glad to inform you that the Council, as part of its export promotional programmes for the year 2015-16, proposes to organize first-ever exclusive Indian Textile Exhibitions/Buyer-Seller Meets for 2 days each in El Salvador and Honduras during June/July 2015 in association with the Embassy of India in Guatemala, which oversees the working of different matters in these countries.  These proposa,ls under the "Focus Latin American Scheme”, which await confirmations from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India, were identified with a view to significantly enhance India's trade in this region.

Objectives:   These programmes are aimed at:

  • Creating/enhancing awareness among potential Buyers in these markets about the strengths/ capabilities of India, as one of the reliable manufacturers/exporters of MMF textiles in the world.

Honduras is the center of the Central American Apparel Industry. Today, it is the fourth largest supplier of apparels to the U.S. market in the world, and the largest in the Central American and Caribbean regions.

The United States has been the largest supplier of fabrics to Honduras. Local producers of fabrics do not compete directly against U.S. producers/exporters of similar products. However, a few local firms have developed a small-size Industry, which produces for the local and export markets, especially those in Central America. Honduras though sources finished apparel products from the U.S., the volume and the size of the market have been relatively smaller.

Highlights of the El Salvadorean Market

  • The Textile and Apparel Industry is one of the strongest pillars of the El Salvadoran economy, as it accounts for over half of the total exports made by the country.
  • Imports of textile & clothings into El Salvador from the world reached US$ 1.62 billion during 2014.
  • Total imports of MMF textiles from the world by El Salvador during 2014 stood at US$ 846.07 million, of which India’s share was only US $ 15.71 million (1.85%).
  • Apparels account for nearly 24% of total imports worth US$393.48 million from the world into El Salvador.
  • The exports of Indian Man-made fibre textiles to El-Salvador during 2013-14 stood at only US$ 6.34 million - registering a growth rate of 13.09%, as compared to that of the previous year.
  • India’s share in imports of textile & clothings into El Salvador was merely 1.10%, which is around US$ 17.99 million in 2014.
  • Yarns are the dominant items in India’s export basket to El Salvador with a share of nearly 50%, followed by fibre 38%, and fabrics 12%.
  • The US continued to be the main destination for El Salvadoran export of textiles & clothings, as the country accounted for 76% of total T & C exports made by El Salvador.

Highlights of the Honduras Market

  • Imports of textile & clothing into Honduras from world rose to US$ 184.67 million during 2013.
  • The total imports of MMF textiles from the world by Honduras during 2013 stood at US$ 38.11 Million, of which India’s share was only US $ 0.50 Million (1.32%).
  • Exports of Indian Man-made fibre textiles to Honduras during 2013-14 amounted to only US$5.14 million.
  • India’s share in imports of textile & clothing by Honduras is merely 1.99%, which is valued to US$ 3.68 million in 2013.
  • Import of Made-ups from the world into Honduras reached US$ 61.63 million with a share of over 33%.
  • Yarns are the dominant items in the export basket of Honduras with a share of nearly 84%, followed by fabrics 14% and fibre 2%.

  • Each selected Company will have to depute a minimum of one senior executive to the above Exhibitions at its own cost.
  • Considering space constraint and the size of the market, the Council proposes to select around 15 companies for participation in the above Exhibitions.  Hence, participation will be accepted strictly on the “First-Come-First-Serve” basis.
  • Booth packages include one discussion table, three chairs, two fabric-display stands (for fabric producers/exporters), or two yarn shelves (for yarn producers/exporters),  or one fabric-display stand & one yarn shelf (for producers/exporters of both yarn & fabrics), adequate lights and one waste-paper basket on the basis of local availability only. Any other extra requirements will have to be borne by participants on the basis of additional costs.

Participation/Cancellation Policy : Since the exact amount of participation charges is being finalized and hence, the same will be communicated to prospective member-participants shortly, if actual amount of participation fee is not acceptable, any participant - confirming his participation on the basis of the above-mentioned estimated participation charges, will be allowed to withdraw his participation from the above Exhibitions immediately after being informed about the actual amount of charges without any cancellation charges.  However, subsequently after the confirmation of final amount of participation charges, any subsequent cancellation will be decided on the basis of the following Cancellation Policy :
